For being all-around legends, we wanted to say a huge Thank You in a way we all care about. Introducing: The Basil Card.
The next 1000 orders will receive an Afends Thank You card embedded with Basil seeds, ready to plant and grow. In the next coming months, we’ll be releasing a variety of these Thank You cards so you’ll eventually end up with your own little vege patch, ready to eat. We've started with Basil because it's hell easy to grow, but our aim is to help reduce our carbon footprint and to educate on the sustainable benefits of growing your own food!
These cards all printed on 100% recycled paper (produced only from waste paper & seeds) and using water & vegetable based inks.
The carbon footprint from food is the greenhouse gas emissions produced by growing, rearing, farming, processing, transporting, storing, cooking and disposing of the food you eat.
Many people don't realise this, but food is in the top three largest carbon footprints per household alongside transport and housing. Food itself actually contributes to about 17% of the total footprint per household due to food processing, storage and waste.
By growing your own vegetables to replace store-bought food, you can begin reducing your carbon footprint. You'll be throwing away less food that goes to waste, you'll also cut down on the greenhouse emissions caused from factory farming and you'll cut down on refrigeration storage - no need for storage, it's a living breathing beauty that'll look nice in a pot or in your yard.
To grow your Basil, simply moisten your Thank You card and pop it in some damp soil. Cover the card with the soil and give it a good water.
We'd suggest watering every second for the first week, or every day if the soil is drying out too quick in this hectic Australian summer. We recommend an Organic Soil Mix and avoiding synthetic fertilisers to further reduce carbon emissions, as well as it’s much healthier for you when you are growing your own veges!
Handy Tips:
Give the soil a good water during the planting stage! A general rule for Basil is you want to keep the soil damp. An easy way to tell is just sticking your finger about a centimetre in: if it's dry, it needs a water! Just don't overwater it so you don't rot the roots - you'll be able to tell this because the Basil leaves will begin going yellow, but not drying out!

Unfortunately we are only able to ship our Thank You cards within Australia!
