Oh Sweet Elodie

Oh Sweet Elodie

Heaven-sent Afends muse, Elodie Gervaise sat down with us to discuss the release of her latest single, Rust.

While she is an Aussie at heart, Gervaise spends most of her time in Paris, a place she finds her music magic, “I find it to be more diverse [...] from all the neighbouring cultures and influences”

Her sound is something else, a voice that has the power to put you in a hypnotic trance, the perfect marriage of rhythmic harmony and heartbreaking verse. With words being the backbone of her vision, “I like how experiences and emotions can be told and processed through the right ones”, she certainly draws you in with those familiar feelings. Finding inspiration from the likes of Soko, Leonard Cohen and the Black Angels, it’s no wonder really and her latest single, Rust is no exception. Exploring that grey area that we regularly encounter when adventuring into new connections, we all have baggage but Gervaise makes us realise that this isn’t always a bad thing, “this song was written about the meeting of two people carrying residue from past relationships. By connecting they clear each other’s ‘rust’ through their physicality and expression of lust.”

Rust is now available on Spotify and Elodie will be celebrating the single release and playing with her band on the 25th January at Quai de Bourbon, Paris.

With her distinctive style, it was a no brainer to get Elodie in head to toe Afends. Currently sporting a shaved head, she is the epitome of natural beauty, no-frills and boy she certainly doesn’t need them. Open to experimenting too, which is something we love especially with a hair cut when asked if she had any new ones planned: “gotta try them all. Natalie Portman in Closer”. And what does the rest of 2020 look like for Elodie? Well, “music, movement and hopefully being part of a wave of positive change”, we are on definitely on board.
