Los Angeles local and member of the legendary Virgin Gold Cult, Alie Layus joined us with daydreamer Dajana to shoot our chicks latest threads. and choosing the Village of Ventura was a given. Sitting smack bang in the middle of the looney tunes of L.A and the sanity of Santa Barbara, this is a balanced blend of the two. Set against a backdrop of towering palms, retro diners and kitsch motels not to mention the surrounding epic Topatopa mountains, this is a pretty special spot to shoot.
We began by navigating downtown, embracing the casual culture that seems to just be the general vibe in Ventura, Layous snapped Dajana in a mix of our latest Mulberry Check, Hemp double denim and creamy cords. With blue skies ahead of us it only made sense to wander down and be amidst the charm of the old school Pier, get some infamous Coastal Cone (arguably the best ice cream on the West Coast) and dangle our docs above the brilliant blue waters of the Pacific Ocean.
Our exploring continued into some vintage record shops, which gifted us an ideal setting for Dajana in the Cora Hemp Boilersuit, its these spontaneous and unplanned moments that make these adventures what they are and are also that little bit of Afends. Finding these golden snapshots all over town, we are always in awe of the talent that is the Virgin Gold Cult and the magic in Layous’s eye. From chain link-fences to 70’s style brick and mortar, sandy beaches and dirt tracks, we were truly spoilt for choice. Finishing the day on a high, we set up with a simple white sheet backdrop, in our favourite No Worries Tee, checkerboard sunnies and some kickass cowboy boots, because who needs pants anyway?
